Can you believe it’s been three years since Mind My Brains, Darling! was released? How time flies! What were you doing three years ago (apart from watching MMBD, of course), and what are you up to now?

Over the next few weeks we’ll be updating you on what the MMBD crew and friends have been doing and running features on new projects, including Paul Best’s new TV production, Aqua Sports Expeditions, a new SCUBA TV show. Today Paul and the Wolf’s Head production crew are filming in a flooded Titan 1 missile silo in Pasco, WA, which is probably a little drier than it is here in the Fraser Valley today!

To help take you back, here are some more of our favourite BTS photos from that wacky, crazy time:

VCON 2011 – new video from Wolf’s Head Productions

Appearances, industry, news, videos, webseries

Women in Webseries Geek Girl Con 2011It’s hard to believe it has been a year since we were last at VCON! What a blast we had for two weeks when Paul Best, Laura Olson and Angela Aro came up for a VCON and Girl Geek Con. We did several panels and screenings and meet some amazing people.

We were sorry to miss VCON in 2012 but from all accounts it was another fun and successful event. Hopefully we’ll be back in 2013.

Paul B has edited some of the footage from last year and released it on Vimeo – enjoy!

Dr Horrible joins G+ – Don’t Be Evil?

industry, videos, webseries
Dr Horrible Team

Dr Horrible Team from the official G+ account

Dr Horrible has been back in the news recently. EW reported that Dr Horrible is going to be aired on TV on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 9 p.m. on The CW channel and the @drhorrible Twitter account has started tweeting again. It was widely reported during SD Comic Con that Dr Horrible 2 is going to happen, but there was no dates given because of timetabling the main stars.

Dr Horrible was the first webseries I ever heard of (The Guild being the first I ever watched), and the first webseries we ever made was set in the Evil League of Evil Application Processing Office. I’m always interested in the Doctor’s doings, so when a friend of mine on Google +, Chris Kim A, sent me a link to a G+ Dr Horrible account I was intrigued. I tweeted @drhorrible and got this response:

Dr Horrible G+ tweet

It’s an interesting development, and you have to wonder how it ties in with Google’s (in)famous ‘Don’t Be Evil’ informal motto. I’m hoping that Louis Gray doesn’t have to intervene.

IAWTV Board Election Results Announced

IAWTV, Indie Intertube, industry, news

IAWTV logo

News from the IAWTV today:

“The International Academy of Web Television™ (IAWTV), an nonprofit organization founded to promote and recognize excellence in original online programming, has announced the newest members of its Board of Directors.

  • April Grant, Executive Producer, Indie Intertube
  • Paul Kontonis, Chief Media Evangelist, Outrigger Media
  • J. Sibley Law, Founder & President, Saxon Mills
  • Susan Miller, Writer/Producer, “Anyone But Me”
  • Jenni Powell, Content & VIP/Speaker Coordinator, Bryan Allen Events
  • Tim StreetWriter/Producer/Director, Ape Digital Inc.”

Not everyone I voted for got a place on the Board, but I am happy with the result. There is a good mix of new and old members, and an International member of the Board, at last! Although April Grant is from the US, she is living in Victoria, BC at the moment, where she co-hosts the weekly ‘Indie Intertube‘ shows with Amanda Shockley. I have seen all those elected taking active roles in promoting the IAWTV and new media in general, across various platforms, so I know these people have the experience, passion and drive to make things happen.

If you are a member of the IAWTV and you voted in the elections – thank you! This organisation needs members to be active and engaged to drive forward. It’s not just the Board members and all those who help on the various committees that make the organisation – it is every single member doing whatever they can to promote, encourage and shape the future.

I was very touched to have been nominated to the Board a second time, but chose to decline because I have some huge projects on the go at the moment and I knew I couldn’t devote the necessary  time to the post. Our new and standing Board members have committed to a huge amount of work on our behalf, and I would like to publicly state that I really appreciate it. I might not agree with every decision but I do support the Board and I am really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for the IAWTV.

Team BREW after shooting 'This Human Body' for #CTW6

On Tubefilter yesterday it was announced that the Audience Choice and Judges’s Choice winning pilots of the Celebrate The Web 6: Level Up will be announced LIVE during the Indie Intertube podcast on June 6th. I try to tune in to April and Amanda every week because they always have the very latest information about what’s going on in the webseries world, and their shows are informative as well as very entertaining.

Voting for the Audience Choice is open now, and you can vote once a day until May 31st by visiting celebratetheweb.com. Cleverly, the voting page updates with the pilots in a different order each time, so scroll down if you don’t see the one you want straight away:

We teamed up with Rob Hunt from Phase Fire Films to form Team BREW, and our pilot ‘This Human Body’ is a moving drama about David facing up to his mortality and his past. Megan Lynch was our production assistant and Rebecca also starred in the pilot. You can watch it on YouTube:

Indie Intertube 100th show plus Audience Choice Award: Vote Now, Vote Often!

Awards, Indie Intertube, industry

Rob Pagett smexily dressed

Robb Padgett, dressed for Smex-cess?

Yesterday marked the two-year, one hundredth episode anniversary of the weekly podcast, Indie Intertube. The show was lots and lots of fun with phone-in guests, a packed chat room and some huge announcements. One of the revelations was the names of the finalists in the ‘Smexy’ (smart and sexy) Male and Female categories:

Actress:

  • Alexis Boozer, Leap Year
  • Emma Caulfield, Bandwagon
  • Felicia Day, DragonAge: Redemption,
  • Jo Bozarth, Cupid and Eros
  • Taryn O’Neill, Once Upon
  • Stacy McQueen, Pretty
  • Kelsey Robinson, Girl Parts

Actor:

  • Robb Padgett, Vampire Zombie Werewolf
  • Michael Caruso, Devanity
  • Bryan Michael Block, Aiden 5
  • Joel Bryant, Suck and Moan
  • Dingani Beza, Asylum
  • Brendan Bradley, Pretty
  • Woody Tondorf, Video Game Reunion
If you listen to the show you will find out how many of these nominees have been kissed by David Nett….

This year there are going to be 51 total categories including separate Soap awards, four music awards and two ‘innovation’ awards. Most awards will have seven nominees, too. The nominations will hopefully be announced next week and there was also a lot of discussion about how the awards are going to be judged. It isn’t going to just be decided by Amanda and April. They are also having judging help from creators (in categories they are not nominated in), press and fans, so every decision will be considered, debated and argued over.

As from NOW, though, you can vote on the Audience Choice Awards over at IndieIntertube.tv – and you can keep on voting until next Wednesday. The number of votes you can cast is UNLIMITED, so hit f5 to refresh and get those votes in! Some shows are already leading the way. Make sure your favourites are going to be in the Top Ten Nominees because next week only the top ten will go through to the next round. And yes, we were thrilled to see ‘Mind My Brains, Darling!‘ was in the running 🙂

You can listen to the whole show, here:

Like many creators, we wanted to celebrate 100 episodes of awesome and had planned to shoot a little sketch. Unfortunately I’ve been ill this week so this was the best I could do. Happy Anniversary April and Amanda!
